Later in 2021 the first unmanned Peregrine mission to the Moon will launch carrying scientific equipment and other supplies to the Moon’s surface. The payload will include a silicon wafer disc listing a number of names micro etched onto its surface, including the Mount Cotton Scouts (pictured above). In addition the Mount Cotton Scout Group have been given the unique opportunity to send a SD card container 100MB of photos of our youth members in action. We also hope to secure mission patches from this mission for our Youth Members as a permanent reminder of being part of this amazing event. Whilst it will be later in the decade when mankind start to live on the Moon, we hope our package inspires the families of those Scientists and Explorers to start their own Scout Group. In the unlikely event that a non-human species finds our package and can interpret it, it would be fantastic for Scouting to become truly inclusive across the universe and opens its first off world Scout Group.More information about the Peregrine mission can be found here NASA – NSSDCA – Spacecraft – Details.
