Waiting List Policy

The Mount Cotton Scout Group run a waiting list for all Youth Sections to help manage the size of each section to ensure youth members can enjoy a quality program and experience, and that section meetings are run safely with sufficient adult supervision.  This applies to all new members and those wishing to transfer to the Mount Cotton Scout Group.

Our Young Adult Rover Crew have not set a maximum member limit and membership is managed via the Crew’s Unit Council Executive and supported by the Group Leader.

Section sizes for the Joey Scout and Cub Scout sections are also subject to QBSI 2.1.4.1 which determines specific adult to youth member ratios.  It is important to note that these are Adult to Youth Member ratios and Youth Helpers from older sections do not contribute to these ratios.

The current maximum limits for each section are subject to change depending on the overall maturity of the section, this relates more so to the Scout and Venturer sections who are not constrained by QBSI policy e.g. a very young Scout Unit will need greater Adult supervision and therefore would have a lower maximum limit than a more mature Scout Unit.

Children on the waiting list are offered a position in the age appropriate section on a first in first out basis, based on the following prioritisation: –

    1. Children of volunteer Leaders* of the Mount Cotton Scout Group

    2. Siblings of existing members of the Mount Cotton Scout Group

    3. All other children

Where possible an available position in a nearby Scout Group is encouraged to mitigate the delay of a child gaining a Scouting experience.

*Parents offering to become leaders of the Mount Cotton Scout Group are greatly appreciated, an offer to be a leader is subject to meeting a selection criteria including a cultural fit with the Scout Group, undergoing the required police and child safety checks, commitment to training, and there needs to be a position available.  Being a Leader in Scouting is a privilege and not a right.
